The New Von Trapps

Well heres an account of another couple of little trips away. Seven off us went off to Salzburg for a long weekend -thats Phil and Pat, Lynne,Dilwyn , Andrew, Alexandra and Wendy.
If you look closely at the photo you will also spot that Stouffer the blue cat also came along.
We all had a great time including re-creating various scenes from the Sound Of Music - including a moving re-enactment of the children visiting the Nuns at the Noneburg Abbey and a faithful re-creation of the dancing round the fountain scene in the Mirabell gardens - it was hard to spot the difference betweeen us and the original (apart from the rubber cat of course)

The Leopoldskin Palace

I realised that if you listed what we did on our four days away it sounded a bit like one of those dreams you get when you've had too much cheese -
'we all sang Do-re-Mi in some pretty gardens with a blue rubber cat, we sat in the middle of a lake while a man played a trumpet, Dilwyn and Lynne sang me a song about a Lemon Tree, we had an unexpected tour of train stations in Bavaria, we all wanted to go to the Salt Mines but didn't get there, we saw a musuem where a man had a hat made from dead ducks and pheasants, and on the way back Lulu shared the plane with us'. All true though...

On the Maid of the Mist

Prior to this, Pat and I had done our cat-sitting trip to Toronto looking after two cats , Celeste and Lucy!! Had a fab time but it was very hot. Probably the highlight for me was finally seeing Niagra Falls. Yes, the rest of the town is very tacky but the Falls themselves are spectacular.
You will see us doing the most touristy thing and going on the Maid of The Mist boat tour of the two Falls (the Horseshoe and the American).
As well as that we were surprised to find a very good beach in Toronto - on the banks of Lake Ontario - good sandy stuff which we could walk to from where we were staying - plus there are some lovely islands with no cars in Toronoto harbour. Very good for a picnic and relaxing to get out of the heat. Eating out was very cheap and food quality top notch! And going out generally is a bargain - top state of the art cinema prices are about £5 only. What a great year its been for trips away- and its still only July!
