It was that time again for me and the Dilwyn Boy to take a trip up the M3 and then onto the South Circular to the legendary Half Moon, Putney to see the great Harry Hill and the Caterers performing at one of their 'musical' evenings.
These gigs seem to turn up once or twice a year, its just Harry and his band playing songs having a laugh, and trying out some new comedy material as well as some old favourites.
For some reason, the venue was only about half full, perhaps because its was only advertised as The Caterers and in small letters featuring guest vocalist Harry Hill rather than the other way around.
No matter a fun evening was had by all! Harry came on and performed 'The Theme from Magpie' (a childrens TV show from the 60s and 70s for my non-british readers!!). We got a performance of 'Hung Up' by Madonna who made a guest performance dancing! Strangely enough when you see Madonna in the flesh she does look quite old and has a noticeable moustauche as well as some strange bulges in the leotard where you are not expecting them.
Harry then sang Lady Madonna to her. Hey kids why not click on the Madonna link!!

Later we had a rendition of 'Two Little Boys' the last verse sung, in a sensitive twist, from the horse's perspective, using a horse puppet - on the other hand, Harry was accompanied by Gary , controller of Channel 4.

For those who could not see the Tiny Horse we then had a life size horse who came to the front of the stage to dance to a rendition of the Osmond's classic 'Crazy Horses'. We were able to see this horse quite clearly.

A Sitar Woman ( Eva Thompson wife of 'Madonna' and 'The Crazy Horse')came on to perform 'Sitar Woman' - a twist of Elvis' Guitar Man. If you click on her name you can go and see a short clip of Sitar Woman' from a previous show! Hey I'm getting good at this HTML coding thing!
Later the same Sitar Woman became The Badger! Harry played his massed horn instrument which has some german name that I've now forgotten (renditions of 'In The Mood', 'Eastenders', 'Animal Hospital' amongst others) - we also had a tuba player on who gave us 'Play That Funky Tuba White Boy'.

Other numbers included The Smiths sung in a George Formby style;
'Kung Fu Fighting', 'I Predict a Riot' ('and though I predicted a riot, it turned out that there wasn't a riot after all'), 'Windmills of Your Mind' - though this was slightly hampered by Mr Hill not knowing the words, and the finale was 'If I can Dream' (is that what its called) by Elvis.
Daft, stupid and great fun. We loved it again. And I got my DVD autographed too.
